Good Sayings

Following are some good sayings to ponder and enjoy --- God Bless!

The Gospel According To You...

There is a wonderful old story

Written in a time long gone:

It is the Gospel according to

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The Gospels were given to show us

This power of God's love divine

May that story be told again

In the writing of your life and mine.

People read and admire the Gospel

With its love so inspiring and true

But what do they say and think of

The gospel according to you?

You are writing each day a gospel

Take care that the writing is true

For the only gospel some will read

Is the gospel according to you.

It's Between You and God

People are often unreasonable,

Illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind,

People may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful,

You will win some false friends and some true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,

People may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,

Someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,

They may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,

People will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,

And it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis,

It is between you and God;

It never was between you and them anyway.

Be Blessed,

-----  Mother Teresa

Doing The Impossible...

Start by doing what is necessary,

then do what’s possible,

and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

-----  St. Francis of Assisi

Quality...

Quality is not an act, it's a habit.

-----  Aristotle

Waste No Time...

Waste no more time talking about great souls

and how they should be.  Become one yourself!

-----  Marcus Aurelius

This Place Where You Are...

This place where you are....

this place where you stand....

is where you must start.

From here you can go in any direction and to any destination....

and it is impossible to start from anywhere else.

-----  Ron Atchison (Inspiration Peak)

It May Be...

It may be that when we no longer know what to do,
we have come to our real work,
and when we no longer know which way to go,
we have begun our real journey.

-----  Wendell Berry (American Author and Poet)

Our Great Hope...

Little progress can be made by merely attempting to repress what is evil.

Our great hope lies in developing what is good.

-----  Calvin Coolidge (30th President of the United States)

We Are The Times...

Bad times, hard times - this is what people keep saying;

but let us live well, and times shall be good.

We are the times:  Such as we are, such are the times.

-----  St. Augustine

Listen, Child...

Listen to the Mustn'ts, child,
Listen to the Don'ts,
Listen to the Shouldn'ts,
The Impossibles,

The Won'ts,
Listen to the Never Haves;
Then listen close to me --
Anything can happen, child,
Anything can be.

-----  Shel Silverstein (Children's Book Writer)

The Greater Danger...

The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high...

and we miss it.  But that it is too low... and we reach it."

-----  Michelangelo

Aim Higher

Always aim higher than you believe you can reach.

So often, you'll discover that when your talents are set free

by your imagination, you can achieve any goal.

If people offer their help or wisdom as you go through life,

accept it gratefully.

You can learn much from those who have gone before you.

But never be afraid or hesitant to step off the accepted path

and head off in your own direction,

if your heart tells you that it's the right way for you.

Always believe that you will ultimately succeed at whatever you do,

and never forget the value of persistence, discipline, and determination.

You are meant to be whatever you dream of becoming.

-----  Edmund O'Neill

Set Yourself Free

Set yourself free from anything that might hinder you in becoming the
person you want to be.  Free yourself from the uncertainties about your
abilities or the worth of your dreams, from the fears that you may not
be able to achieve them or that they won't be what you wanted.

Set yourself free from the past.  The good things from yesterday are
still yours in memory; the things you want to forget you will, for
tomorrow is only a sunrise away.  Free yourself from regret or guilt, and
promise to live this day as fully as you can.

Set yourself free from the expectations of others, and never feel guilty
or embarrassed if you do not live up to their standards.  You are most
important to yourself; live by what you feel is best and right for you.
Others will come to respect your integrity and honesty.

Set yourself free to simply be yourself, and you will soar higher than
you've ever dreamed.

-----  Edmund O'Neill

Steer The World...

God says to me with kind of a smile,
"Hey how would you like to be God awhile
And steer the world?"
"Okay," says I, "I'll give it a try.
Where do I set?
How much do I get?
What time is lunch?
When can I quit?"
"Gimme back that wheel," says God,
"I don't think you're quite ready yet."

-----  Shel Silverstein (Writer)

Prayer of St. Francis (of Assisi)

Make me a channel of Your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring Your love.
Where there is injury, Your pardon, Lord.
And where there's doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of Your peace.
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, only light.
And where there's sadness, only joy.

Oh, Master, grant that I may never seek,
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood, as to understand,
To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of Your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
In giving to all men that we receive,
And in dying that we're born to eternal life.
